Ongoing training is an important part in the formation of the Allambi culture, listed below are some key courses that all employees are trained in.
Response Abilty Pathways (RAP)
‘RAP Training transforms relationships among adults and young people’
The purpose of RAP is to provide essential skills for youth workers and carers who deal with challenging children and youth. It develops abilities to respond to needs instead of react to problems so that young persons take pathways to responsibility. RAP focuses on three basic capacities;
1) Connect 2) Clarify 3) Restore
Participants in RAP gain specific competencies so they can disengage from adversarial encounters, connect with adult wary young people and restore bonds of respect. Instead of reactive, coercive interactions, youth are enlisted as responsible agents in positive change. RAP deals with problems by focusing on strengths and solutions and by taking advantage of ‘teaching moments’ instilling positive behaviours and values rather than enforcing obedience. RAP sets high expectations for youth to take responsibility and show respect for self and others.
Children need opportunities to develop belonging, mastery, independence and generosity. RAP is grounded in evidence on resilience, brain science and positive youth development. RAP translates the latest research into practical methods for building strengths in all youth including those presenting with difficult behavioural problems.
Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
The purpose of the TCI system is to provide a crisis prevention and intervention model for youth workers and carers in out-of-home-care agencies that will assist in:
• Preventing crises from occurring • De-escalating potential crises • Effectively managing acute crises • Reducing potential and actual injury to children and carers • Learning constructive ways to handle stressful situations • Developing a learning circle within the agency
A Child in crisis needs help, what kind of help and how it is given may make a crucial difference between the child or young person’s learning from the experience or being set back. The Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training program for youth workers and carers presents a crisis prevention and intervention model designed to teach how to help children learn constructive ways to handle crisis.
The ability of Allambi Youth Services to respond effectively to youth workers, carers and young people in crisis situations is critical in establishing not only a safe environment, but also one that promotes growth and development.
The skills, knowledge, and professional judgment of youth workers and carers in responding to crises are critical factors in helping young people learn constructive and adaptive ways to deal with frustration, failure, anger, rejection, hurt, and depression.
